When you punch into google 'DIY product photography' most tutorials are setup up in a brightly lit room or in a studio with a beautifully lit white background, studio lights and the perfect DLSR camera sitting on a tripod. This is the ideal setup for product shots and its the clearest way to show customers what the product is from all angles. I love using a mix of natural & studio photos of stock when uploading pictures on etsy or my website. Most the time I use natural shots on instagram and facebook as it shows followers/customers the item in a natural setting (not one manipulated by light).
Shooting in the afternoon is my favourite time of the day as the light is not as harsh and you don't have to worry to much about shadows. I started taking these photos at about 3:30pm, the only problem I had to deal with was the loss of light that occurred over the hour & a half that passed by. So some products don't have that glowing seashore background.
